Do not Despise His Chastening!

My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor detest His correction;
For whom the LORD loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights.”

Proverbs 3:11-12

We are blessed that God our Father is a good father. His love is perfect, and thus as any loving father would do, He disciplines us when we stray from His law. Without discipline a child will continue in disobedience, and will go in the way of destruction. “Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod, and deliver his soul from hell.” Proverbs 23:13-14. We are not to “despise the chastening of the Lord”, but rather give thanks that He leads us, and raises us up in His ways. It is a grace, that he would discipline and correct us.

Of course every child cries disciplined, Yes, it hurts… It isn’t pleasant, but let us not forget that it is for our good; for our sanctification. “Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11.

Let us all rejoice in our Father, for His loving ways are perfect. May we give Him thanks for this grace of discipline.

    So true, and think about it, we discipline our kids not only when they disobey, but also when we want them to learn something new, something more. Discipline is not just punishment it’s also education, teaching and guiding.
    I believe that this is what God is doing with us lately… not that we don;t need to be punished, but more so we need to be tought to we soly dependent on HIM.
