Who is Like Him?

“Who is like You, O LORD, among the gods?
is like You, glorious in holiness,
Fearful in praises, doing wonders?

You stretched out Your right hand;
The earth swallowed them.

You in Your mercy have led forth
The people whom You have redeemed;
You have guided
them in Your strength
To Your holy habitation.”

Exodus 15:11-13

These verses are taken from Moses’ song right after God delivered His people from the hand of Pharaoh. Moses along with all the children of Israel saw the mighty hand of God at work. The ten plagues were poured out upon Egypt. Israel was led out of captivity by a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. And then there was the parting of the Red Sea. They crossed as upon dry land, and then as their enemies pursued, God swallowed them up as the wall of water was let loose. “Thus Israel saw the great work which the LORD had done in Egypt; so the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD …” Exodus 14:31

But what about us? We are the spiritual Israel. If you are Christ’s you too have seen wondrous things. This is how I imagine our song would be as New Testament believers.

Who is like You, O LORD among the gods?

Who is like You glorious in holiness,

Fearful in praises, doing wonders?

You stretched out Your hands,

And swallowed up the sting of death and Hell.

You in Your mercies have raised us from the depths;

You have forgiven us our iniquities, and redeemed us.

You will guide us by Your Spirit

To Your holy habitation.

For those whom You have justified,

You will also sanctify and glorify.

Who is like you, O LORD?

Oh how blessed we are to be named His children. May we sing a song of praise for He has dealt mercifully with us. Indeed His mercies are new every morning!

    This blessed me this morning!! Nothing else can stir me quite like a reflection on the mercies of God. Your take on what “our song” might be, is right on. Truly… “who is like You, O Lord?”

    Thanks brother!
