“There is no healing a man till the law has wounded him, no making alive till the law has slain him.”

-C. H. Spurgeon

the-lawTruly if we never look into the mirror of the law, we will never see the ugliness of sin, and thus never see the need to become cleansed.

“Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.”  –Galatians 3:24.

Have you been slain by the law? Have you seen that all your ways slander God’s Holy name? Until you see and understand this, you will never treasure Jesus. You will never understand his love and grace. You will never taste of salvation.

O God, open the eyes of the blind who see no need for the healing of their souls. Open their eyes to see the beauty of Christs love in dying for the sins of the world. May your holy law pierce their hearts and may they be drawn to the Savior.

  1. A great prayer my brother, may we see God answer it here in Romania!

Joey, I loved this part of the post: “Have you been slain by the law? Have you seen that all your ways slander God’s Holy name? Until you see and understand this, you will never treasure Jesus.”
How true that all our sin does slander God’s Holy name. I was meditating today on the phrase “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” It’s so familiar we don’t often think what it really means. I wondered why Paul didn’t just say, “all have sinned and break the law.” But I realized that the glory of God is actually what is revealed in the law, because each part of the law reveals a facet of His holy character. So all our sin against His law, is actually a rejection of His glory. That really hit me.
Then I read in Isaiah 43:7 that our whole purpose as God’s sons and daughters is that we were formed, called and created “for His glory” We bear His name and His reputation is connected to us. And I thought, how horrible that the things we do, our failure to treasure Him with all we and our failure to love those He has put into our lives would actually scream to the world a lie, (or slander as you put it) that God is not glorious. That led me to a sincere grief (I was slain once more by the law) but then on to treasure Jesus more than ever.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing the other day as I read an article on some Romanian guys blog about the Gospel being the mirror that shows us our sin… I think he kinda confused that for the Law and I wrote saying how the law shows us how much we are not like God as the reveals GOd’s Holy character. Anyway… I’m glad we are thinking along the same lines…. And indeed the law that slays us drives us to Christ!
