“Present sacrifice is sustained by the hope of future reward.”

These were the words of John Piper as he preached a sermon called “The Supremacy of Christ Makes us Caring and Daring” from Hebrews 10-12.

Moses was a great example of this as he embraced suffering for a greater reward. “By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,  choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.  He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.” – Hebrews 11:24-26

Are we willing to suffer for our brethren? If not, it’s probably because we don’t see Jesus as our all-satisfying treasure. Our eyes don’t look past this present situation.

O God, we are weak in our faith. Lord, we believe, but help our unbelief! May we see Jesus as Supreme and our Reward!

“…without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6

It is better to trust in the LORD
Than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the LORD
Than to put confidence in princes.

Psalm 118:8-9

Oh how easy it is to put our confidence in men; in those who appear to be mighty or wise. We are often short-sighted, and can’t see beyond what is visible. God grant us faith that our eyes would see above and beyond, for man is like the flower. He fades and withers. His beauty and strength are for but a season, and then he fails. However, the LORD our God is a rock; solid and sure. There is no changing in His appearance or in His words. “For I am the LORD, I do not change” Malachi 3:6. Therefore cast your eyes upon Him. Be of good cheer. Trust in Him, for He shall not fail.

“…Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40: 7-8
