“Present sacrifice is sustained by the hope of future reward.”

These were the words of John Piper as he preached a sermon called “The Supremacy of Christ Makes us Caring and Daring” from Hebrews 10-12.

Moses was a great example of this as he embraced suffering for a greater reward. “By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,  choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.  He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.” – Hebrews 11:24-26

Are we willing to suffer for our brethren? If not, it’s probably because we don’t see Jesus as our all-satisfying treasure. Our eyes don’t look past this present situation.

O God, we are weak in our faith. Lord, we believe, but help our unbelief! May we see Jesus as Supreme and our Reward!

“…without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:8-9

The truth is that the more we comprehend the perfections of God’s holiness and justice, the more we will see the miserable state of our sinfulness. Yes, God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. On the other hand we were born in sin; in darkness and deparvity. We were slaves to sin…

But God who is rich in mercy, gave us Christ the redeemer as a perfect, everlasting sacrifice for our sins, so that He could justly forgive us and cleanse us from all our unrighteousness. Oh what beauty there is to be found in this gospel truth! He is faithfull and just to forgive for Christ suffered the wrath that we deserved!
